Question by reine.wen: What parasite could this be?
Many months ago, in june maybe, I started noticing white eggs and excessive discharge whenever I went to the bathroom. At the same time, if it’s any help, I was admitted to hospital for completely different issues; I was severely underweight, 82lbs at 5’5 and so I was there to gain weight(the weight loss was intentional and not due to the stomach bug). I’ve gained up to 100-ish and I’ve noticed that the more I eat, the more frequently I find these eggs.
I get awful stabbing pains in my abdomen on occasion, and have visited the doctor on many occasions but was told I had IBS. I mentioned the eggs, but it was completely disregarded. My bowel movements also seem to be ‘all or nothing’.. Which is why I was under the impression that it was irritable bowel syndrome.
This morning however, I vomited up what would have been a couple of hundred eggs, blood and red fleshy tissue. I freaked out and saw the doctor as soon as possible.
The doctor had no idea what it could be, although she’s convinced its some kind of parasite. I kept the bloody tissue and eggs, and so it has been sent to a lab..
I guess that despite having some results sometime soon, I’m really curious to know whether somebody has had similar experiences or knows what it could be? I went to southern california in April, although I can’t remember consuming anything unusual or unsafe. Though in December I went to Bali and did go swimming in beaches, used public showers and bathrooms and was in contact with fish. I also did eat food which may have been contanimated. But I’m still reluctant to say this is why, because there’s a huge gap between the trip and when I actually showed signs of infection. Unless it is possible that due to eating too little they weren’t detectable and so, by eating more in june/july, I resurrected them? xD
Okay, I’ve really rambled, but my underlying question remains to be: what could it be?
*Edit* I forgot to mention! I also have a rectal prolapse which was caused by straining because of very odd bowel movements.. But this might have something to do with it?

Best answer:

Answer by Flashflood
Request that your doctor run an Ova/Parasite Stool test on you. You wouldn’t believe how many patients get put through invasive procedures before they have even this simple test done.

Question by : Do I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome?
I ALWAYS feel full. I hide my stomach under loose-fitting clothing because I always look bloated. If I drink anything, even water, I feel full but not in a good way. I’ve been eating more fiber in the past month because I always had trouble going to the bathroom. It helped for a little while but now I’m back where I started. I don’t feel better when I have a bowel movement at all because it’s usually not much, no matter how much fiber I’ve been eating. I told a coworker and she thinks that I may have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I looked up the symptoms and it sounds like what I have but I’m not sure. Who should I talk to to be sure? If it is indeed IBS, what should I do? Is there an over-the-counter medicine I can take? Should I change my diet in any way? I’ve cut out soda completely but that did nothing. I still eat junk food more than I eat healthy food but would that really be that big of a factor?
Thanks for your input

Question by haylifer: IBS: Constipation, skin burning, uncomfortable trapped gas for over a week?
I suffer from irritable bowel syndrome and over the past week I have had some very strange symptoms. Usually my IBS gives me grief for only a few hours once in a while where I will have very extreme pain until all the constipated stools, gas and diarrhea has been passed. This week it has been different; I have not been able to pass anything except a small amount of diarrhea. My abdomen feels bloated to the point of constant discomfort and I can feel trapped gas moving throughout the whole of my digestive tract. My lower back aches, which is not unusual for me when constipated, but also I have been feeling a strange burning sensation on the left side of my lower abdomen which at times makes it necessary to shift the waistband of my pants so it’s not touching that area. Something which could be unrelated is that I am experiencing much more frequent indigestion. I’m 21 years old and do have a poor diet and unactive lifestyle, though I’m not overweight. I have suffered from acute megacolon when I was younger and I’m a little worried that it has returned, especially as the skin burning sensation could possibly be neuralgia from a compressed nerve? I’m going on holiday abroad next week and though the symtoms right now aren’t unbearable, I’m starting to worry that things could get worse. I’ve been taking lactulose and senna for the past few days but that seems to be doing nothing. I’ve just made an appointment with my GP too. What I really want to know is could this be suggestive of something that could be serious, e.g. a blockage?

Best answer:

Answer by Sunny Monroe
OMG I have IBS. It is so hard. Other people never understand us. But try to seek help asap this could be a bacterial infection of some time.

Question by Elyzabeth: Could I have Celiac disease?
My doctor thinks that I might have Celiac disease, but I can’t get tested until next week. I’m wondering if it seems likely that I have it, since I only have a few of the symptoms. I am 15, and I looked up the list for children’s symptoms-

abdominal bloating and pain
chronic diarrhea
vomiting
constipation
pale, foul-smelling, or fatty stool
weight loss

I only have abdominal bloating and pain, and diarrhea that I only have off and on, so I don’t know if that’s really chronic.
For the adult symptoms-
unexplained iron-deficiency anemia
fatigue
bone or joint pain
arthritis
bone loss or osteoporosis
depression or anxiety
tingling numbness in the hands and feet
seizures
missed menstrual periods
infertility or recurrent miscarriage
canker sores inside the mouth
an itchy skin rash called dermatitis herpetiformis

I’ve only had bone and joint pain (but that is supposedly from my severely flat feet, which my foot doctor is having me see a surgeon about, so I don’t know if that counts for these symptoms), anxiety, and irregular menstrual periods. I don’t know if they’re neccessarily missed, only one or two in the past year that I’ve actually missed, but I’ve had my period for about three years or so, and they are still irregular.
I know you can’t know if I have the disease, but I’m curious- just from viewing my symptoms, does it sound like I have Celiac disease? I have been having stomach pain after I eat dinner for the past three weeks or so. At the beginning of the year, I was having stomach pain, but my doctor gave me lactaid pills and it seemed to help, but now the doctor says that lactose intolerance can be caused by Celiac disease. Initially we thought that I might have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, because my Aunt has that, but my doctor didn’t think it was that, he was more worried about Celiac, and on the internet it says that Celiac can be mistaken for Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Just judging the symptoms, is it more likely that I have Celiac disease, or more likely that I don’t? What I mean is, does it sound like I have Celiac disease, even though you can’t know from just the symptoms?

Best answer:

Answer by weiskraut
If you truly have Celiac disease, then you would automatically be severely calcium deficient (calcium is absorbed at the same place where Celiac disease is causing intestinal damage), which gives you a great number of possible deficiency symptoms, with not every person necessarily having all those symptoms:
General aches and pains, insomnia, muscle spasms, menstrual problems, PMS, nervousness, depression, fatigue, higher stomach acid, osteoporosis, irregular heartbeat, and lots more.

One way to find out if it is gluten intolerance, or wheat intolerance, is to eat pure 100% rye bread and stay away from all wheat at the same time. If the symptoms disappear, you are just wheat intolerant, but if the symptoms persist, you may well have a problem with gluten, which would require you to pretty well stay away from all gluten-containing sources. BTW, there are plenty of gluten-free types of pasta or bread available – just in case.
Regardless, just remember that if you do test positive for Celiac, you will have to take a higher-dose calcium supplement, otherwise you will suffer low bone density-related consequences.

Question by : Need Help With Serious Health Anxiety?
I just want to say upfront that I know I’m still better off than a lot of people in the world. For that, I am grateful, but it doesn’t really make me feel any better.

So, as you might have guessed from the title, I have bad health anxiety and have for many years. Unfortunately, this is compounded by the fact I do actually have health problems. I have celiac disease, irritable bowel syndrome (primarily constipation), haemorrhoids, I’ve had two skin cancer cut out, kidney infection, over a decade of acne, and testicular torsion. Probably something else I can’t remember. I’m only 21.

Anyway, my anxiety has been getting much worse recently. Right now, something feels a bit off after I urinate, and I’m panicking that I have another kidney infection or UTI coming on. Who knows if I really do or not.

So… I’m just looking for advice with how to deal with it. My family and doctors I go to rarely take me seriously because they know of my anxiousness. As a result, I don’t have anyone who can make me feel better.

Any advice is much appreciated.
Oh, I forgot something very important. This whole issue bothers me enough that, even though I don’t think I’d actually do it, sometimes I really think I’d be better off dead than living a life where I worry all the time.

Best answer:

Answer by Scott D
so, my suggestions may be a bit off the wall, but I think one: You need to drink more water. UTI’s, kidney infections and constipation can all be from lack of WATER. make sure to get the recommended daily allowance of water. Not soda, not juice, but plain old water. secondly, have you cut out casein from your diet? You are gluten free due to the celiacs, but a lot of people get even more relief when they cut out casein as well. Try to do dye free if you can. Also, if you are taking any medications, PLEASE make sure they too are gluten free! This is something too many people seem to not even think about!

getting your diet on track properly can actually improve anxiety levels. Feed your body right, and you don’t have to worry.

hello everyone. so i am healthy young buck, eat healthy, exercise daily, but i started having prostate problems months ago. so i saw my doctor he gave me a drug for my problem. but after started the drug i started having uncontrollable farts, they are noise less (and usually small) and coming as they please, i can’t stop farting. so i stop the medicine a couple months ago but the farts are still coming. does anyone have any suggestions on this could be, my doctor gave me bentyl thinking that it was irritable bowel syndrome but its not doing anything. anyone have any ideas about what it could be, or how i can stop farting. please, they are really embarrassing

Answer by poppy1
Hi Jim,
Having gas all the time would be embarrassing..Just don’t eat gassy foods and maybe in time the Farts will STOP!!! Broccoli, cauliflower, beans and the list gos on..They are very gassy indeed..Just drink plenty of water and it might delude the gas..
Good Luck and I do hope you get all those Farts under control..
Lol..
